Comments

GREEN:

  • Tablets (1mg, 5mg, 25mg) (For patients with swallowing difficulties, the plain tablets can be crushed and dispersed in water)
  • Ear/eye drops (0.5%)
  • Retention enemas (20mg)

DO NOT PRESCRIBE (DNP):

  • Foam enemas (20mg). Significantly more expensive than similar treatment options e.g. budesonide foam enema (decision date - Oct 2017)

GREY:

  • Soluble tablets (5mg) (restricted for use in patients with fine-bore tubes only) (decision date - May 2017)
  • Suppositories (5mg). Use only if other topical steroid preparations not suitable. Significantly more expensive. Reminder topical steroid treatment should be prescribed as a time-limited course, avoid issuing repeats without review. (decision date - February 2024)
