Immediate release preparation: 1st line oral hypoglycaemic for all patients with type 2 diabetes (unless contraindicated)
Prolonged release preparation: 2nd line - restricted for use in those patients who are intolerant of immediate release metformin, even after slow dose titration. (Decision date - May 2015)
