GREEN after consultant/specialist initiation: For psychosis, bipolar disorder (CG185), depression (Decision date - October 2022)

The standard release tablets which are taken twice daily are the preferred option over the more expensive once daily MR preparation.

NB: standard release tablets should be taken once daily when prescribed for the treatment of depression in bipolar disorder.

GREY: Quetiapine MR, may be prescribed under exceptional circumstances:

1. For patients who have discontinued their treatment with quetiapine and currently have to re-titrate over the period of a week
2. Patients who require once daily administration but are unable to tolerate titration to the therapeutic dose with once daily standard release tablets

The preferred MR branded generic is Brancico XL (decision date - July 2018) or Sondate XL (decision date - Sept 2018).
