GREY: 5% ear drops. For treatment of minor conditions such as ear wax, patients are encouraged to self-care.  Treatments are available to purchase over-the-counter.  See Derbyshire ICB self-care policy. 

GREEN specialist recommendation: 500mg capsules is the preferred cost-effective preparation.

 

RED: Sodium bicarbonate gastro-resistant caps (Nephrotrans). Licensed for the treatment and maintenance against recurrence of metabolic acidosis. For limited patients who cannot tolerate other sodium bicarbonate preparations due to gastric side effects.

Red Drug Classifications

• 1: Requiring specialist assessment to enable patient selection, initiation and ongoing treating
• 2: Requiring long term on-going monitoring of efficacy by a specialist and not suitable for shared care
