RED:

  • NICE TA246: Pharmalgen for the treatment of bee and wasp venom allergy.  Started and monitored in a specialist centre. A recommended treatment for bee or wasp venom allergy after a severe reaction, or moderate reaction in certain circumstances. (Decision date - March 2012)

Do Not Prescribe (DNP):

  • Bee Venom (Alutard SQ Bee) and Wasp Venom (Alutard SQ Wasp). Pending clinician request. (Decision date - November 2019)

 

Red Drug Classifications

  • 1: Requiring specialist assessment to enable patient selection, initiation and ongoing treating
  • 2: Requiring long term on-going monitoring of efficacy by a specialist and not suitable for shared care
  • 4: Specifically designated as “hospital only” by product licence or by DH/NICE
  • 5: Is new to clinical practice and unfamiliar, necessitating a period of accumulation of experience, firstly (and most rapidly) by consultants/specialists
